82km from Hanoi, Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve is a rare ecological gem in the heart of the Northern Delta. With its magnificent limestone landscape, smooth lagoon, rich flora and fauna and the indigenous community that preserves the environment with all their hearts — Van Long is a destination for those who seek an authentic experience with nature.
The ranger does not wear a blue shirt
In Tap Ninh village lives Mr. Tinh, a local farmer who once refused to guide poachers hunting langurs. His action sparked a change that transformed the whole community: from secrecy to solidarity, from indifference to protecting the forest, the langurs, the birds, and the wetlands as if they were part of their own flesh and blood.
Today, every boat that carries visitors across the Van Long wetlands also carries these humble yet proud stories of my villagers — the “forest guardians” who wear no ranger’s uniform.
